FAQs
Our tea collection includes a delightful range of decaffeinated black and green teas!
To explore these soothing options, simply type “decaf” into the search bar on our website. We’re committed to catering to your preferences with our diverse product offerings.
Our decaffeinated teas are processed using the carbon-dioxide (CO2) method.
In this process, streams of heated CO2 are passed through the tea leaves after they have been pressurized with water. In turn, CO2 molecules bind to, and dissolve the caffeine. As a result, the delicious flavor molecules and desirable oils of the tea are left unaffected.
Decaffeinated tea is not totally caffeine-free. The de-caffeination process leaves a slight amount of caffeine in the leaf. By law, tea labeled as “de-caffeinated” must have less than 2.5 percent of its original caffeine level, which usually equates to less than 2mg per cup.
One 4oz bag of loose tea is approximately equivalent to ~35 cups worth of tea when using our recommended measurements.
For reference, we use 3.2 g/serving for calculation purposes on all our teas.
Yes! All of our teas are gluten free.
Our products do not contain malted barley, grains, or flours with gluten in the tea blend. We handle no gluten products in our processing facility, and our internal testing shows that our non-GMO pyramidal tea bags are negative for glutens. This means that the leaves, flavoring, and even the sachet are all gluten free!

All of our tea and ingredients are USDA certified organic. We carefully choose hand-picked leaves, herbs, spices, fruits, and flavorings to create a wide range of flavorful teas.
Core Tea Flavor
- We start with the very best organic black, green, oolong, rooibos, white, matcha, and herbal tea components. These form the core flavor of each blend.
Scented Tea
- Scented teas, like Jasmine, use an older traditional process.
- To make this tea the organic flowers and tea are placed together for a period of time, then they are mixed the jasmine flowers with green tea leaves. The natural organic oils from the jasmine flowers combine with the tea leaves, creating a floral and fragrant aroma. The jasmine flowers are then removed before packaging.
- This leaves a scented, favorable tea!
- This process should not be confused with aroma therapy oils or any other non organic means of scenting tea. Scenting tea is an ancient process and Fraser Tea only stocks premium organic scented teas.
Inclusions
- Inclusions are organic flowers, spices, herbs, roots, roasted rice, dried fruits, and more.
- These inclusions are added to the tea blend to balance flavors. You can see the actual fruits, flowers, and spices in our blends.
Organic Flavor Extracts
- Fraser Tea uses organic flavor extracts obtained by extracting flavors from organic fruits, leaves, roots, or blossoms.
- These extracts are mixed with the organic tea and inclusions, resulting in delicious aromas and flavors.
No Artificial Flavors
- We are committed to using only organic flavors, there are no artificial flavors or fillers in any of our teas.
- Our organic tea is free from GMOs, preservatives, and chemicals.

Many teas are grown in countries where pesticides and herbicides are not monitored or regulated, like the agricultural products in North America or Western Europe. The founders of Fraser Tea decided in the very beginning that they would offer only USDA Certified Organic Tea to our customers.
Our tea is grown using strictly natural methods, meaning the leaves and plants aren’t exposed to synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, or chemical additives. It’s produced using organic farming practices like crop rotation, composting, and the use of beneficial insects. In essence, organic tea adheres to the following principles:
- No Harmful Chemicals: Organic tea is not treated with toxic chemicals such as pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, or chemical fertilizers during its growth, harvest, or processing.
- Natural Farming Practices: Organic farming practices include crop rotation (to maintain soil health), composting (to enrich the soil), and avoiding synthetic additives.
- Third-Party Certification: To be considered organic, a third-party certification company (such as CCOF or QAI) must approve the entire process - from growing to blending to packaging.
Remember, when you choose organic tea, you’re not only supporting your health but also promoting sustainable and environmentally friendly practices.

Choosing Organic Grades of Tea
- Opting for organic tea is crucial. Organic certified tea farms avoid pesticides and other contaminants. We exclusively use organic certified tea to ensure the highest quality.
- Tea leaves are dried but never washed until you steep them. So, saying yes to organic tea means avoiding unwanted substances.
Understanding Tea Grades
- For black tea, there are formalized grading systems based on the part of the plant harvested. The highest quality comes from the smaller, younger growth leaves.
- Green, oolong, and white teas follow similar rules. We maintain high standards by using the best grades of organic loose-leaf tea.

- Vanilla Pods: Infuse your tea with vanilla pods for a subtle, aromatic sweetness.
- Licorice Root: Licorice root has a naturally sweet taste and can be used to sweeten herbal teas.
- Fruits: Fresh or dried fruits like berries, apples, or citrus slices can naturally sweeten your tea.
- Maple Syrup: A touch of maple syrup adds a rich sweetness to your cup.
- Blackstrap Molasses: Although strong in flavor, blackstrap molasses can be used sparingly to sweeten tea.
- Agave Nectar: Derived from the agave plant, agave nectar is a low-glycemic sweetener.
- Stevia: Stevia is a calorie-free, plant-based sweetener that’s much sweeter than sugar.
- Sucralose: An artificial sweetener, sucralose can be used in moderation.

Let’s delve into the fascinating scientific principles behind steeping tea. When a tea bag is submerged in water, a complex dance of molecules occurs, driven by osmosis and diffusion.
Osmosis and Diffusion
- Osmosis: The movement of water molecules across a semi-permeable membrane (like the tea bag) from an area of lower solute concentration to an area of higher solute concentration.
- Diffusion: The movement of solute particles (such as flavor compounds) from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration.
Tea Bag in Water
- As you place the tea bag in hot water, the process begins.
- Different molecular compounds within the tea leaves start to dissolve and diffuse into the water.
Aroma First
- The lightest molecules, such as volatile aromatic compounds, escape from the tea leaves and infuse the water.
- This is why you first notice the delightful aroma—the fragrance molecules are quick to escape due to their low molecular weight.
Antioxidants, Polyphenols, and Caffeine
- Next, compounds like antioxidants, polyphenols, and caffeine follow suit.
- These beneficial molecules contribute to the health-promoting properties of tea.
- Antioxidants protect cells from oxidative damage, polyphenols have anti-inflammatory effects, and caffeine provides a gentle energy boost.
Bitter Tannins
- Finally, the heavier molecules, including tannins, emerge.
- Tannins are responsible for the astringency and bitterness in tea.
- While some tannins are desirable (they give structure to the flavor), excessive tannins can make tea taste overly bitter.
The Art of Steeping
- The goal is to extract all the desirable nutrients and flavor from the tea leaves without releasing an overwhelming amount of tannins.
- Steeping time and water temperature play a crucial role.
- Shorter steeping times yield a milder cup, while longer steeping times intensify flavor and tannin release.
Remember, the art of steeping tea lies in achieving that perfect balance—a flavorful cup without the bitterness. Enjoy your next cup of tea with newfound appreciation!
The choice of teacup or mug can indeed influence the flavor of your tea. Let’s explore this fascinating topic with a touch of elegance:
Color Matters
- The color of your teacup subtly impacts your gustatory experience. Research suggests that the color of the cup can influence perceived sweetness.
- Red or pink cups tend to make tea taste sweeter, while a plain white cup may not evoke the same perception.
Aromas and Memories
- Aroma plays a significant role in our tea-tasting journey. It’s a sense that can transport us to memories and evoke emotions.
- Just as specific glassware enhances the aroma of different wines, the shape of your teacup affects how you perceive the tea’s fragrance.
- Nostalgia often accompanies the aroma of tea - whether it’s memories of cozy afternoons or cherished moments.
Cup Shapes and Flavor
- Consider the classic teacup: thin, short, and wide. This shape is purposeful.
- The wide opening allows the aroma to rise, enveloping your senses as you bring the cup to your lips.
- The thinness ensures that the tea reaches your taste buds precisely, allowing you to savor the full dimensions of flavor.
Remember, the teacup you choose isn’t just a vessel; it’s an integral part of your tea experience. So, whether it’s a delicate porcelain cup or a rustic ceramic mug, let it enhance the magic of your tea moments!
